Nonviolent communication and organizations

May 4th, 2008

Communicating with NVC (Wikipedia) requires adopting practices of observation, and reduced dependence on certain methods of criticism and judgement.

I found these guidelines helpful, both to re-orient strategic communications and to re-frame communication in difficult organizations:

  • Forget about your commodity; focus on your relationships
  • Forget about your difficulties; focus on your progress
  • Forget about the “future”; focus on today

Scott Berkun on brainstorming

September 5th, 2007

I just read Scott Berkun’s excellent article “How to run a brainstorming meeting” that should be required reading for brainstorming facilitators. The article is geared toward work environments but applies well to small organizations and developing teams. He explains particularly well how brainstorming fits in relationship to other project management activities.
